Axel Boman + Petter Nordkvist [Studio Barnhus / Sweden]
In 2009, Studio Barnhus—named after its location on Barnhusgatan, or 'Orphanage Street'—sprang into being. Run with care and dedication by Axel Boman, Kornél Kovács and Petter Nordkvist, the label has served as a major anchor point of the scene and is a familial stronghold for Swedish electronic music with a steady stream of releases by its founders as well as artists ranging from HHNY to Usio, to Baba Stiltz. Studio Barnhus' with a rep as a home for the kind of dance music that's both fun and functional, with slightly wonky, fully wonderful releases!
Axel Boman
One of the most in demand house music artists of today Axel started producing music in his basement with friends, building a reputation for himself in the small but very friendly Stockholm club scene. His sound is raw, playful and drenched in oceans of soul. 2010 was a big breakthrough year for Axel, with the epic screw house anthem “Purple Drank” and the same titled EP on DJ Koze’s Pampa Records label, as well as participating in the Red Bull Music Academy.
He followed it up with release on Permanent vacation, Moodmusic and Hypercolour.
His full album “Family vacation” was released in 2014 on his own Studio Barnhus label.
Soon after he released the massive “1979 / Nokturn”, which was well received across the board , even nominated as track of the year by Gilles Peterson. Axel is currently part of “Man Tear” (his DFA collaboration with Petter) and 1/2 of Talaboman - his work with John Talabot, one of the most exciting collaborations in the game.
Petter Nordkvist
Petter Nordkvist is a dj and producer from Stockholm in Sweden who is fast forging his own unique niche in the musical spectrum. Petter's music wears its diverse influences on its sleeve, fusing together techno, electro, dub, ambient, acid, breaks and deep house in his own unique style.
He is a master at finding rare and surprising records, knowing how to swing dj sets into pure madness.
Responsible for some of the quirkiest and most unforgettable dancefloor stompers in recent years—including the wonky house track 'Szikra' (released on Studio Barnhus in 2014), and gloriously campy 'Pantalon' (off his Radio Koko EP for Numbers in 2015). Kovács' ear for catchy hooks, along with his innate playfulness and desire to go beyond his comfort zone, culminated in the recent release of his critically acclaimed debut album, “The Bells”
