Description

Step into the Lanka Art Studio, a peaceful private studio in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, and experience the beauty of authentic Korean folk painting (Minhwa) in the private studio of a local Korean artist. More than just a painting class, this is an opportunity to step into a real working art studio, discover Korea’s artistic traditions, and create your own meaningful artwork in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This hands-on workshop is designed for beginners as well as art lovers from around the world. No previous painting experience is necessary. Over the course of approximately two hours, learn about the history, philosophy, and symbolism of Korean folk painting while creating your own artwork using traditional Korean materials. Rather than simply following a design, discover the meanings behind Korea’s traditional symbolic motifs and understand how Korean folk painting expresses wishes for happiness, prosperity, health, harmony, and good fortune. Every brushstroke becomes part of a deeper cultural story, making your artwork a truly meaningful souvenir from your journey in Korea. The studio is easily accessible via Subway Lines 2 and 5, making it simple to visit from anywhere in the city. One of the unique advantages of this experience is its location near the Han River. Before or after your class, enjoy a relaxing riverside walk, rent a bicycle, or simply take in one of Seoul’s most beautiful landscapes. All materials are provided, including traditional Korean hanji paper, brushes, paints, palettes, and carefully prepared reference designs. Throughout the class, your instructor will guide you step by step with personal attention in a small-group setting, ensuring that everyone—including complete beginners—can confidently complete a beautiful painting. At the end of the workshop, take home your finished artwork as a handmade souvenir and a lasting memory of your time in Korea. Beyond learning a traditional painting technique, experience Korean culture through creativity, conversation, and the atmosphere of a genuine local artist’s studio.
