Description
Seoul can sometimes seem unappealing during the day because it has been damaged by many wars and the country's former poverty, but it lights up at night, looking beautiful and ready to party. It's not for nothing that it's nicknamed 'The City That Never Sleeps.'
We offer you an evening that can be tailored to your wishes, what you have already seen or plan to do, and the starting location. This includes:
- Street food or restaurant experience, for example, BBQ
- At least two neighborhoods
Here are some of the places we can visit:
- Deoksugung Palace, the only one of Seoul's three major palaces to be open in the evening, until 9:00 PM (admission until 8:00 PM). This palace is where the last king resided until the early 20th century, so it contains buildings of Western architecture, resulting in interesting combinations. The buildings are beautifully illuminated, even inside, and surrounded by the city, which is also lit up.
- Gwangjang Market, famous for its street food, is more authentic in the evening, when there are more Koreans and fewer tourists than at noon
- Ikseon-dong barbecues, among the few in Seoul that are on terraces, in traditional alleys. So iconic that even Macron visited them during his short trip to Seoul in 2026!
- Tents in the Jongno district, a remnant of those street food tents that are often seen in K-dramas, with lovely ladies who cook excellent food.
- The alleyways of the Euljiro district, a maze of artisan shops and 'hole-in-the-wall' restaurants that seem to have stayed in the 1970s and 80s, with their old-fashioned neon signs
- Cheongye-cheon, Seoul's 'inner river', open at night, an ideal after-dinner stroll, especially in the summer when it's cooler, and an ideal vantage point in the heart of the illuminated buildings.
- The student and artistic district of Hongdae, which I know like the back of my hand. It is particularly lively in the evening, especially with its musicians and trainee K-pop dancers practicing on the street.
I have lived in Seoul since 2009, working as a producer or director of films and video content. Previously, I was a journalist and graduated in Political Science (Sciences Po). I speak Korean very well, have also been working for travel agencies since 2018, and have produced or helped to produce French feature films, documentaries, and news reports in Korea. I have made films about nightlife and music, helped make the first documentary about Korean rap for French TV, run a café/bar, and organized many small folk or indie rock concerts, so I hope I have uncovered many secrets of Seoul's 'nightlife'!
