How to stay fit in Seoul

Do you look up gyms, fitness classes, or hikes when you’re planning your next vacation? If so, you’re in luck! Seoul is a fitness lover's dream with a variety of fun, physical activities for every budget. There are literally thousands to choose from, so we’ll cover some of the basics.

Gyms/Classes

Cost: Varies depending on length of stay and number of classes
If you’re just dying to lift heavy or get in a zumba class, you can always check out a local gym. Most classes will be in Korean, but they’re easy enough to follow and you can still get your sweat on!

I would suggest GOTO Fitness as they have numerous locations throughout Seoul and you’ll often find staff that speaks English as well. They have all the equipment you could possibly need and host a number of different types of classes including yoga. In addition, you can relax in their healing zone or rent sportswear for specific activities.

RockClimbing

Cost: 15000w-30000w for Day Pass + Equipment rental (if applicable)
Outside of your big gym experience, you may want to try out rock climbing! If you’ve never been to a rock climbing gym before, it’s an amazing workout that will have you feeling muscles you never knew you had. You can find a range of different types of climbing gyms from walls to bouldering.

If you want to get some practice and bouldering in, I suggest checking out The Climb in the popular area of Hongdae. The Climb is a bouldering gym, so you won’t have to worry about learning the ins and outs of tying knots and perfect for folks afraid of heights. It’s a great place for beginners. They charge 20000 for a day pass and you can rent equipment (shoes 3k + chalk 1k) at the front desk.

Dance Class

Costs: 15000-35000
Looking to move and groove or pick up those amazing K-pop choreographed dances? You’ll find an abundance of dance classes to choose from all over Seoul. Whether you’re looking to learn the latest K-pop dance or spruce up your Salsa, you’ll find the right class in the right language for you.

If you’re looking for K-pop dances, I suggest trying out Fanxy Studio. You can find classes in both English and Korean. It’s easy to sign up for a single or multiple classes online. They have trained dance instructors that will provide you with a step-by-step for any level.

Hiking

Cost: FREE
If you’re set on seeing the sites while getting in some cardio, you can hit up the trails and hike your way through Seoul and the surrounding areas.

One of the easiest hikes you can choose from is right in the center of Seoul, Namsan Park. The main hike up to the tower is a 2.5 mile hike up a beautiful winding path. There are a number of opportunities to stop and take a picture of different skylines around Seoul. Hike up during the day to get some fresh air and see far across Seoul or hike up at night for an amazing lit skyline.

Outdoor/Public Gyms

Cost: FREE
One thing you may not know about Seoul is there are numerous free outdoor/public gyms. These gyms come with the basics, weight bench, elliptical, and other resistance or body weight machines. If you look at a map and find even the smallest park, you’ll likely find one of these free public gyms as well.

If you aren’t into leaving finding one of these to chance, check out Calisthenic Parks. This website is perfect for finding larger public gyms all over Seoul!

This is just a quick overview for some of the amazing workouts you can get in Seoul. By no means is this an extensive or exhaustive list. If you have a favorite activity you want to be sure not to miss while visiting Seoul, it’s likely you’ll be able to find it a few times over!
