For thousands of years, Korea's mountains have been more than places of natural beauty. They are where Korean mythology was born, where Buddhist monks practiced, where Confucian scholars sought wisdom, and where the country's tea tradition first took root.
Over two days, you'll discover how mountains shaped Korea's spiritual culture—and how tea became one of its quietest forms of practice.
Leaving Seoul behind, you'll travel into Korea's southern mountains. Your guide will introduce the stories that give meaning to the landscape before you arrive.
Day 1: Mountains, Myth & Spirituality
Begin at Samseonggung in Hadong, one of Korea's most extraordinary spiritual sites. Hidden high in the mountains, thousands of hand-stacked stone towers honor Korea's founding mythology. Through the story of Dangun, you'll explore beliefs that shaped Korean culture long before Buddhism arrived.
The journey continues to Saseongam Hermitage in Gurye, dramatically perched on a cliff overlooking the valley below. Here you'll experience how Korean temples were built not to dominate nature, but to become part of it.
As evening approaches, visit Hwaeomsa in Gurye, one of Korea's oldest mountain temples, where Buddhist architecture and the surrounding forest create an atmosphere of quiet reflection.
Day 2: Village Life, Nature & Tea - in Hadong
Begin at Choe Champan's House, a traditional village where you'll discover how Korean families once lived in harmony with the landscape. Walking through its hanok courtyards offers a glimpse into everyday life before modern Korea.
Next, visit the birthplace of Korea's tea culture, where tea seeds were first planted nearly 1,200 years ago. Learn how tea gradually became connected with Buddhist practice, hospitality, and mindfulness.
The journey continues with an immersive tea experience led by a local tea master. Learn how Korean tea is cultivated, and participate in a traditional tea ceremony where every movement encourages presence, patience, and attention.
The last stop is Suseungdae in Geochang, where Joseon scholars gathered beside the stream to read, write poetry, and reflect. Here you'll discover that nature was not simply admired—it was considered a teacher. (Premium Only)

Important Information
- Comfortable walking shoes are recommended — you'll be walking on temple grounds, mountain paths, and forest trails throughout the trip
- The tour departs from Gyodae Station (Exit 12) at 7:00am sharp — please arrive 10 minutes early
- This tour generally involves moderate walking. The optional suspension bridge hike is more physically demanding, with uphill trails and stairs, but is highly recommended for the breathtaking views. If you have a fear of heights or would prefer to skip it, we can adjust the itinerary accordingly
- Meals are not included, but your guide will accompany you to local restaurants for lunch and dinner
- This tour operates rain or shine. In the case of severe weather, adjustments may be made to the itinerary, but the tour will not be canceled
