Description

Step into the world of Korean traditional alcohol at Baekusaeng Makgeolli, a working brewery located inside a traditional market in the heart of Seoul. I'm Joe Kim, a certified Traditional Korean Alcohol Sommelier, brewery owner, and author of the first complete English guide to home brewing Korean rice wine. My goal is to share the history, craftsmanship, and techniques behind authentic makgeolli with guests from around the world. During this hands-on experience, you will: • Discover the history and culture behind Korea's traditional rice wine. • Learn how rice, water, nuruk, and fermentation create authentic makgeolli. • Explore the essential tools and techniques used in traditional brewing. • Taste craft and commercial makgeolli while learning the differences in flavor and production. • Create your own makgeolli batch to continue fermenting at home. • Enjoy a guided tasting of Korean traditional alcohol, including premium soju. This is more than a tasting—it is a chance to understand Korean brewing culture and gain the knowledge to continue your own makgeolli journey after returning home. Leave Seoul not just as a visitor, but as a future makgeolli brewer.
