Description
Experience the art of hanji, Korea’s traditional mulberry paper, in the heart of Bukchon Hanok Village. At Bukchon Hanji Studio, you’ll join a hands-on workshop led by an artisan with over 14 years of experience. This immersive session introduces you to jeonji-gongye, the technique of layering and shaping hanji onto wood or paper forms to create beautiful, functional crafts.
Begin your visit by stepping into a hanok-style studio nestled among Bukchon’s historic alleyways. After a warm welcome and introduction to hanji’s history, select your craft based on your chosen option. Beginners can make a magnet or keyring, while intermediate guests create a traditional soban tray. Advanced participants take on hanji painting, joomchi craft, or lamp and octagonal tray making, all with step-by-step guidance.
Throughout the session, enjoy the calming atmosphere of the studio and the tactile pleasure of working with natural materials. All tools and materials are provided, and you’ll have the chance to sample Korean tea and a light snack as you work. The artisan shares insights into Korean culture and the symbolism behind each craft, making this more than just a lesson—it’s a window into tradition.
Your experience ends at the studio, where you’ll take home your finished piece—a unique, meaningful souvenir of your time in Seoul. The central location allows you to continue exploring Bukchon or nearby attractions at your own pace.
