Description
Our historical and cultural journey begins in Itaewon, a dynamic neighborhood where global diversity meets the profound depths of Korean history. The name Itaewon traces back to the Joseon Dynasty, originating from a official state-run station (won) that provided lodging and horses for traveling government officials. Following the Korean War, with the establishment of the US military base in nearby Yongsan, Itaewon naturally transformed into South Korea’s primary gateway for international culture—a historic outpost of globalization that today showcases the country’s vibrant, multicultural energy. Leaving the lively, cosmopolitan avenues behind, a serene path toward Hangangjin Station brings us to the Memorial Stone of Martyr Yu Gwan-sun. A towering figure of the 1919 March First Independence Movement, Yu Gwan-sun martyred herself in Seodaemun Prison at a young age. She was originally laid to rest in the former Itaewon Public Cemetery, but her remains were sadly lost during uncoordinated urban expansion during the Japanese colonial period. Here, we pause in quiet reflection to honor the noble spirit of a young woman who sacrificed everything for her nation's freedom, deeply appreciating the precious liberty we enjoy today. Ascending gracefully along the ridge of Namsan, we reach the elegant Grand Hyatt Seoul. Pause here to indulge in a warm café latte and a moment of relaxation. Sweeping panoramic views of the Han River and the expansive Seoul skyline unfold through the windows, offering a peaceful interlude to recharge for the climb ahead. Our path then leads to the glorious highlight of this tour: Namsan Seoul Tower, the spiritual heart of the capital. Historically known as Mongmyeoksan, Namsan served as the southern boundary of the Joseon capital, Hanyang, and played a pivotal role in national defense as the site of the central signal beacon towers (Bongsu). Walking through majestic Korean pine forests—traditionally symbolic of the unyielding integrity of Joseon scholars—and winding along serene woodland paths, we breathe in the crisp, refreshing air of 'Seoul’s lungs.' This trail serves as an international crossroads where travelers from around the globe share warm glances and quiet camaraderie. Reaching the summit at Namsan Seoul Tower, our meaningful journey comes to its grand finish as the breathtaking panorama of Seoul opens up beneath us. Surrounded by 600 years of history where ancient royal walls blend seamlessly with a bustling modern metropolis, we bid farewell with the unforgettable resonance of Seoul in our hearts.Includes
