Description
Step into a welcoming Korean culture house in Hongdae and make a meal that reflects everyday Korean comfort food and celebratory table traditions. In this hands-on class, you will prepare three well-loved dishes, gimbap, japchae, and tteokbokki, while learning how each one fits into daily life, family gatherings, and shared food memories in Korea. Rather than simply following instructions, you will handle the ingredients yourself, adjust flavours to your taste, and enjoy the process of building a full Korean meal from scratch.
The experience begins with a relaxed welcome session in a comfortable lounge space, where you will be introduced to the dishes and the fresh ingredients used in class. As the session starts, you will hear about the role these foods have played in Korean homes and on special occasions. You will then begin making japchae by preparing and cooking colourful vegetables such as carrot and spinach, then mixing them with glossy glass noodles to create a balanced dish with varied texture and colour.
Next, you will move on to gimbap, spreading rice over seaweed, arranging the fillings, and rolling everything tightly with a bamboo mat. Once sliced, each piece reveals a colourful cross section that makes this one of the most visually satisfying parts of the class. After that, you will make tteokbokki at the table, mixing the sauce yourself and choosing a spice level that suits your preference, from mild to properly spicy. This makes the class approachable even for travellers who are less familiar with Korean heat levels.
When the cooking is complete, you will sit down to enjoy the full meal you have made, featuring your own gimbap, japchae, and tteokbokki served together as one table spread. You can take photos, share the moment with your group, and end the experience over a freshly prepared Korean meal. Before leaving, you will receive recipe cards for all three dishes so you can recreate the experience at home. The activity finishes at the venue in Hongdae.
