Description

Discover the meditative art of Korean brush calligraphy in the heart of Seoul. HOEK's Seoye class gives you the time, the guidance, and the space to slow down — and leave with a finished piece of your own, written in one of the world's most beautiful writing systems. Not a demonstration. Not a copying exercise. A genuine hands-on class where every stroke is yours. Hanbok & Tea Time : Your session begins with hanbok dressing, followed by traditional Korean tea and hangwa confectionery. Seated with a warm cup of tea in your hands, this is not merely a warm-up. It is the moment you step out of the pace of everyday life and settle, naturally, into a state of quiet focus — before the brush is even lifted. A specialist calligraphy instructor then introduces the history and philosophy of Korean brush writing — how the strokes are structured, what they communicate, and the meditative rhythm that connects the writer to the page. Master Demonstration : Before you pick up the brush, you watch. Your instructor performs a live brushwork demonstration — showing you how ink, breath, and intention come together in a single stroke. This is not a tutorial. It is a moment to understand what the art can be. Practice Strokes : You begin with the fundamentals. Basic strokes, the structure of Hangul characters, and the correct way to hold and move the brush. Your instructor guides your hand, adjusts your grip, and helps you find your own rhythm. The pace is entirely yours. Write Your Piece : The heart of the session. You choose a word or a message that means something to you — and you write it on hanji paper, in Korean calligraphy, guided stroke by stroke. When it is finished, it will be unlike anything else you could buy or bring home from Seoul. Stamping the Seal : Complete your finished Hangul calligraphy by pressing your fingerprint and stamping the seal. We are located in central Seoul, just 3 minutes on foot from City Hall Station (Line 1/2, Exit 7) — within easy reach of Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, Insadong, and Cheonggyecheon Stream.
