BGN Eye Clinic in Jamsil Lotte Tower offers a variety of advanced vision correction procedures. Below is an overview of the treatments available to patients:

1. SMILE PRO

A laser vision correction procedure known for its precision and minimal invasiveness. Uses a femtosecond laser to create a small, lens-shaped bit of tissue within the cornea, which is then removed.

  • Laser Scanning Time: Under 10 seconds, minimizing heat exposure to the cornea.
  • Risks: Low risk of suction loss and minimized infection risk.
  • Recovery: Rapid visual recovery, improved visual quality, and reduced incidence of dry eyes.
  • Duration: Takes about 5-10 minutes with local anesthesia using numbing eye drops.
  • Technology: Features robotic systems like cyclotorsion and centration aids for enhanced precision. The Centralign and Oculign systems help in accurate centration and astigmatism correction.

2. SMILE, LASIK & LASEK

For patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, we perform SMILE, LASIK, and LASEK surgeries, offering tailored treatments recommended after thorough, comprehensive eye examinations.

SMILE Surgery (3rd generation)
  • Duration: 10-15 minutes, with minimal incision size under 2 mm.
  • Recovery: Extremely quick, with full activity resumption in 3-5 hours.
  • Post-surgery: Follow-up the next day or one week after is mandatory; one-month follow-up is recommended.
  • Equipment: Zeiss Visumax Femtosecond laser.

LASIK Surgery (2nd generation)
  • Duration: 10-15 minutes, featuring a 20 mm incision and flap creation.
  • Recovery: Fast, within 2-3 days, though dry eye syndrome can last 3 months to a year.
  • Post-surgery: Follow-ups are scheduled for the next day, one week, and one month after surgery.
  • Equipment: Zeiss Visumax Femtosecond laser, Schwind Amaris Red.

LASEK Surgery (1st generation)
  • Duration: 10-15 minutes, involves removal of the epithelial layer.
  • Recovery: Slower, spanning 5-7 days with moderate dry eye syndrome lasting 3 months to a year.
  • Post-surgery: Mandatory follow-up on the 5th day, with recommended additional visits.
  • Equipment: Schwind Amaris Red.

3. ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)

A type of refractive implant suitable for patients with thin corneas or high myopia, and/or astigmatism who may not be ideal candidates for corneneal reshaping procedures.

  • Lens Type: Uses the EVO ICL, a biocompatible lens made of Collamer that provides UV protection and is positioned behind the iris and in front of the natural lens.
  • Advantages: Clearer vision compared to traditional laser surgeries, no reshaping of the cornea required, and does not induce dry eye syndrome.
  • Flexibility: The lens can be removed or replaced if necessary.
  • Recovery: Quick recovery time with most normal activities resumable within a few days.
  • Duration: The surgery itself takes about 20-30 minutes for both eyes.
  • Post-Op Care: Follow-up recommended at 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 1 month, and then every 6 months to 1 year.

4. Presbyopia Correction

  • Procedure: Typically involves the use of multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) that allow for focusing at varying distances, significantly reducing dependence on glasses.
  • Indications: Suitable for patients typically in their 40s or older who struggle with near tasks like reading or seeing fine details up close, often requiring bifocals or readers due to the stiffening of the natural lens of the eye.

5. Cataract Surgery

A cataract involves the clouding of the eye’s natural lens which affects vision quality, often developing in individuals over 40 but can vary widely.
  • Procedure: Involves the replacement of the clouded lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This surgery is highly effective in restoring clarity of vision.
  • IOL Options
    - Monofocal IOLs: Provide clear vision at one fixed distance, generally set for distance vision. Patients may still need glasses for near tasks.
    - Multifocal IOLs: Designed to help patients see at varied distances without glasses. They involve concentric rings of different powers for near, intermediate, and far vision.
