DESIGNERS:
Woo Youngmi and Woo Janghee are the sisters, creative brains, talents and business women behind South Korea's first ready-to-wear menswear brand; WOOYOUNGMI. Despite growing up in a post-war period with political unrest and little space for creative exploration, the sisters started exploring their creative talent through fashion and fine arts studies.
In 1993 Woo Youngmi started the 'New Wave' with some friends, the platform that paved the way for today's Seoul Fashion Week and in 2002, WOOYOUNGMI started targeting the global market and began showing their collections at the Paris Fashion Week.
WOOYOUNGMI is currently one of the leading fashion brands in Korea and in 2011 they became a full member of French Fashion Association 'La Chambre Syndicale'.
BRAND APPROACH:
Central to the design of WOOYOUNGMI is the man. The man, as if a subject in a painting, never changes, he always remains their subject of inspiration, their idol. Sisters Woo Youngmi and Woo Janghee work side by side as a team, supporting, challenging and completing one another. Woo Youngmi - conservative and precise, Woo Janghee - unconventional and artistic, toghether, they create the perfect balance - reflecting a strong brand image.
WOOYOUNGMI offers their audience the beauty to break the routine of modern living. As with art and cultural experiences, fashion too can offer an escape from the mundane. With fashion, one can make a small investment in oneself and find some joy through experiencing a new outlook. WOOYOUNGMI is often collaborating with - and supporting artists in their effort to share their perspective with a wider audience.

One such collaboration is the recent 'WOOYOUNGMI S/S 2013 MASSPATTERN' Exhibiton with Seoul based artist Osang Gwon. Gwon is international renowed for his remarkable photo-collage sculptures. Inspired by fashion and lifestyle magazines, believing that fashion photography, both editorial and advertising campaigns, can reflect the current times in a creative and imaginative way. Gwon mixes cultures with his work and with a persuasive mish-mash technique, Gwon sophistically re-interprets the multi-cultural mix of the WOOYOUNGMI spring/summer 2013 collection.
The 'WOOYOUNGMI S/S 2013 MASSPATTERN' Exhibition is an extraordinary, aesthetic and beautiful mix of fashion, photography and sculpture - 'Beauty to break the routine of modern living.'
